Objectives : Effective Teaching Learning process, Empower students mind with novel scientific ideas, Motivate students to pursue higher studies in Physics, Develop research aptitude, Encourage  co -curricular and extra curricular activities, Build up leadership qualities , Inculcate values like dedication, social commitment ,  handwork, truthfulness, self respect,   respect for one another  and team work .

History  :  The Department started functioning in the year 1964. UG (BSc  Physics) course was started in 1970 and the first batch passed out in 1973.

PG(MSc Physics) course was started in 1998 and the first batch passed out in 2000.

Ph. D (Physics) was started in 2017.  Department is recognized research center of Calicut University from 2017.

Facilities  : The department has  well equipped MSc and BSc labs. MSc lab has very sophisticated instruments   and computer lab has 7 computers with  WIFI  internet facility,  MSc classes are ICT enabled with LCD projectors, Internet connection , Plasma TV, Public address system  etc.  In addition to the general library the department has a department library which offers the students more than 3000 books which are  related to physics.

Department has 9 permanent faculty members and 5 Laboratory staff.
