Department of Zoology





The Department of Zoology is one of the oldest departments in Government Arts and Science College Calicut, established in 1970. It was initially recognized as Department of Biology and later bifurcated from the Department of Botany to form an independent Department. Currently the Department offers UG programme B Sc Zoology with an intake of 41 students per batch. The Department also offers UG complementary course for B Sc Botany students and an open course in which fifth semester students of any other Department of the college can attend.

Department of Zoology has a sanctioned strength of four teaching staffs which are all currently filled with permanent faculty. All the faculty members are actively involved in research and development activities besides regular teaching and other academic responsibilities. Three of the faculty members are PhD holders and have high impact research papers published in peer reviewed and reputed national and international scientific journals to their credit. The Department has also undertaken several Minor Research Projects with the financial assistance from the University Grants Commission, Government of India. It also organizes state and national level seminars/ workshops/ science exhibitions at regular intervals on various topics of the curriculum under the Faculty Development Scheme of the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Government of Kerala. Invited talks and expert lectures in line with the syllabi are also organized regularly for the benefit of the students.
